As of December 2003, two rapid HIV tests have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for use in the United States.  The test from Dublin-based Trinity Biotech PLC is a ten minute test approved for testing blood serum, plasma, and whole blood.  The 20 minute test from OraSure Technologies Inc. only works on whole blood.⁽¹⁾
